August Night at the Little Thompson Observatory
Total eclipse of the sun next week
On the other side of the Atlantic
the sun will wrap a halo around
the moon’s shadow.
I’ll just imagine it
and settle for falling stars from a comet’s tail,
grains of sand
on fire in the heavens.
A Tinsley telescope
is my giant spyglass in the night.
Light years away,
galaxies, star clusters,
a great gaseous donut;
birthplace of a star?
And all the time we’re looking
at what used to be.
Outside I can’t help but look up.
The Big Dipper points me north,
to Polaris.
How can it go on and on forever?
Or does it just stop?

From ‘Cassie‘ at Resurrection Christian School 5th Grade, March 22:
Dear Little Thompson Observatory,
Thank you for the awesome field trip. My favorite was the constellation wall. When you turned the lights out, it looked just like the real sky! I really found it interesting how each constellation had a story behind it.
We came on march 22, and were not able to see any planets, but the big telescope was neat-o.
I saw the big dipper last month, and I was able to see it, because the wall you guys had helped me to find it in all those stars!
Thanks again,
Cassie
I want to thank you for hosting our Camper Chapter (Sweetheart Sams) last night (June 3). The folks who hosted us were so great. I even think I would enjoy taking the adult class when it becomes available. The kids really made us adults look “uninformed”. Thanks again folks. We really enjoyed it. I intend to come again with the rest of my grandsons.
Sincerely,
Barbara Walther, Berthoud
Last night a small group of us visited your facility. We want to thank you for the wonderful time. We were amazed at what we saw. Both of the volunteers were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. All of us left totally amazed and very glad we had taken an evening to visit the LTO. Thank you again. Thank you to our instructors. I wish I could remember their names to thank them personnally.

We just got home from your observatory! We saw the moon, Saturn and Jupiter!
What a night! Thanks for the tour of a corner of the cosmos!
